Miniature Dutch Houses Filled With Genever

When flying Business Class on KLM, you get a free miniature model of the Old Dutch Houses situated along the canals of Amsterdam and other age-old towns of Holland.  There are a total of 90 choices.  These are the four I was able to get…one for each leg of my flight to and from Kenya.  Each miniature contains original Dutch genever (the juniper-flavored and strongly alcoholic traditional liqour of the Netherlands) from the world’s oldest distilled brand:  Lucas Bols.

Tuskers Beer

Tusker was my favorite beer when I visited Kenya last year.  The bottles were much bigger in Kenya and cost almost as much as bottled water…so yah, quess which drink I preferred.  I was happy to find the beer at an import store here in Seattle, but at the price of $2.99 for a 12 ounce bottle, I doubt it will be my mainstay.

B'loonies

I remembered the distinct smell of this product from my days in the ‘50’s.  I was surprised when I told my niece-in-law about it and she told me it is still being made.  She gave me a package of “B’loonies” and this was a result.  Growing up it only came in one color, now there are 4 (maybe more).  You squeeze a little dab of the product on the end of a small straw and blow…creating your “B’loonie”…and oh, that smell.

Steam Vents

Horse Sculpture

Horse sculpture at friend’s house near Kirkland.  The
large rock display base and the wall coloring behind
make this an outstanding feature.

Wall Covering

Wooden wall hanging at a friend’s home near Kirkland.  The wall behind is a very dark blue.  The combination is quite striking.
